Interactive Web Products*
Client Needs
Client asking for eye catching project for detailed machinery to show animation of how the machine works and details of components on a budget. This application will be shown at tradeshow events and would like it to live on their website afterwards.
Constraints
Applications are meant to be use at tradeshows. We know that our clients have larger booths and have a lot of visitors stop by. Not all of them will speak with a sales person to talk on the product. By making the screens these a touchscreen with an easy to use interface can encourage attendees to come up and interact with the products and learn more about them.
Solutions and Use Cases
Keeping the application web based allowed the client to keep on the website as well as we were able to provide the HTML and files to load onto each computer. By doing this allowed the client to have not run into any internet issues while at the tradeshow. With the tradeshow in mind, we were able to put the finished web app on kiosks as an interactive element for anyone to go check out the products. The projects also being kept on the clients site also allows us to increase the lifetime of the project.
Maintaining quality and scalability
Overall the projects are a hit at tradeshows now. Being able to have an interactive element that we have full control of, make each project scalable as we need, keep on the website and stay within budget has been a sought after project with multiple clients of DeanHouston in similar industries.
OPW Product Guide
Available on both iOS and Android the OPW Product Guide is a full 3D guide for customers to get information on part names, part numbers, installation instructions and pump calculations. Developed in Unity the app has gone through various different changes along the way. I was responsible for the 3D and development of the app but since we did not have the resources to do research on our clients customers my research conducted at tradeshows aided the team in finding the solution to best educated our clients customers and an easy to use tool for the sales team. Clients goals were to have the app be an educational tool for customers out in the field working with different equipment. But also be a sales tool to show off equipment that may be a burden to bring across the country
With other aspects of our design thinking structure maintained the same it was decided to move forward with a mobile application. Developing a mobile app in Unity allows us to better visualize the products, evolve the initial idea by adding as many callouts as needed rather than being limited to features as well as make it an offline application so it can be used anywhere.
The application was built in Unity for both iOS and Android. Scalable UI allowed for multiple devices as well as create a desktop version to be used at tradeshows on larger touchscreen Tv’s for both Customer and Sales team to engage with and explore some of the products OPW has to offer. In our final product the team was able to house seven key products in the app with full details on individual parts. The team was also able to implement a unique calculator for oil tanks that field technicians need specific measurements for products.
